If you’re looking to avoid sore feet or have a “me” day then you might be surprised to know that you can turn cannabis flower into a useful healing ointment.
The question for most people is ”how can you do so?”
So, if you’re looking to turn some of that fantastic indica-dominant flower you love so much into a whole new experience, then you’re in the right place. Read on and we’ll show you a great cannabis salve recipe and what you can use it for.
Cannabis salves aren’t a new concept. They’re a folk medicine tradition that’s just another part of humanity’s complex relationship with the cannabis plant.
They’re just now coming to light again, however, as legalization has pulled it from the underground and into the public light once more.
These salves are traditionally used to aid in a wide variety of conditions. Arthritis is one of the most common uses for them, the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD help to relieve muscle pain as well. For those with chronic conditions, it’s one of the best ways to help yourself to a great, non-toxic round of relief.
Salves will not get you stoned, which is a big plus for many people. Still, the relaxing smell of the aromatic components in the plant also adds to the luxury you’ll feel once you’ve relaxed into it.
Also, it turns out that the stuff is great for your skin!
If there’s ever been more of a reason to take the day off and treat yourself to some self-care then we’re at a loss for what it is.
Simply put, salves allow you to enjoy the complex medical benefits of the cannabis plant with no need to smoke flower or dive into the complexities of dosing edibles. There’s also no reason to worry about getting high off a salve as it’s a topical and absorbed through the skin, but the THC molecules are not absorbed.
There are a lot of components that go into different salves, you don’t need a degree to produce a great salve with your favorite flower.
You just need:
Follow the instructions below to make your very own cannabis salve.
Heat an oven to about 240° and spread the cannabis flower on a baking dish. Pre-cooking cannabis causes a decarboxylation reaction. It makes the ingredients more readily available for use.
Leave the cannabis in the oven for 30 minutes for the best results. Too short and you won’t have the reaction, too long, and you risk burning the flower.
While it’s cooking, you need to heat the coconut oil. A saucepan or small pot works well, just make sure you keep it in motion with a spoon so you’ll avoid burning it. Oil forms hot spots which can cause it to degrade and leave a bad smell.
Keeping the heat low, you can add the cannabis once it’s had a half-hour in the oven. You’re not there yet, you still need to keep the mixture in motion for another 20-30 minutes. If the heat is too high, the oil will turn brown and it can degrade the active ingredients so use a low flame.
Afterward, pour the mixture through a sieve or cheesecloth to remove the flower. The latter is ideal since it makes it easier to squeeze any saturated oil in the buds out.
We have removed the active ingredients at this point, so you can safely discard it without worrying about losing anything.
You’ll then want to melt the bee’s wax to the pot and melt it before adding the oil. Don’t pour it all at once, you’ll want to allow it to slowly drizzle in. Besides, enjoying the process is half the fun.
Once the oil’s been added you can add any other essential oils that you wish to use. Mint’s cooling menthol and the relaxing scent of lavender are both good companions.
Then all you need to do is transfer to another container and let everything cool down.
Once you’ve made your mixture and allowed it to cool it will be ready to use.
For the most part, you’ll be able to use it as much as you want. Apply it generously, relax, and enjoy the effects of this calming, pain-relieving mixture.
You can even apply it to your face if you wish. Many people have found that cannabis salves help to keep their skin fresh and clear, making for a great companion to your usual skincare routine.
Properly made you’re sure to have a great day as the CBD and other cannabinoids work their way into your skin and allow you to have a wonderful, relaxing day at home.
Fortunately, you don’t have to go through all the work of making your own cannabis salve recipe. You’ll be able to purchase a pre-made salve with measured ingredients at a cannabis dispensary.
