Key Lime Pie Strain Benefits and Advantages

What do you think of when you hear the words “key lime pie”?

Are you envisioning that citrusy cream pie that’s a little bit tart, yet still sweet, and all-in-all totally delicious?

Well, we hate to disappoint you, but we’re not here to talk about that kind of key lime pie today.

However, we think you’ll like our type of key lime pie just as much, if not more.

That’s right, we’re here to talk about a particular strain of cannabis that goes by the delicious name of the Key Lime Pie strain.

Wondering how a type of weed comes to be named after a type of pie?

Let’s find out!

Key Lime Pie Strain: The Basics

As we said, this ain’t your grandma’s key lime pie.

Let’s break down some different aspects of the Key Lime Pie strain to see what makes it stand out among other weed strains.

First of all… what’s with the name?

Aroma and Flavor

The name “Key Lime Pie” actually comes from the distinctive citrusy smell of the buds. This cannabis strain smells a bit sweet, sour, and yes, a little bit like lime.

The actual flavor when it’s smoked is not quite as fruity as you might have been wishing for. Although there are some citrusy hints in the weed’s flavor, most people describe the taste of Key Lime Pie weed as “earthy” or even “floral.” Some reviewers even pick up on a hint of chocolate in the flavor.

Genetics and THC/CBD Content

This somewhat rare cannabis strain is a Sativa-indica hybrid. Although the name might make you think that it’s a sister plant to Cherry Pie (they’re both fruity pies, right?), the Key Lime strain is actually more closely related to the famous Girl Scout Cookies cannabis strain.

Both the Key Lime Pie and Girl Scout Cookies weed strains are descended from OG Kush, another hybrid strain. Although each strain has its own unique variations, you can expect some similar effects amongst them. You can also expect similar sweet, earthy notes across these three cannabis strains.

The THC content of Key Lime Pie weed tests at around 20%, sometimes higher — which is a pretty big amount of THC compared to some other strains of the marijuana plant. If you’re sensitive to THC, then the Key Lime Pie strain might leave you feeling a bit more “spaced out” than other weed strains.

Key Lime Pie has a very low CBD content — in fact, CBD barely shows up at all in most tests

Appearance

We all know the saying: don’t judge a book by its cover, because appearances aren’t everything. However, you probably won’t go wrong if you start making judgments about the Key Lime Pie strain based on its appearance. This one’s a looker!

Besides the normal green hues of any cannabis plant, the Key Lime Pie buds often showcase purple hues with some hints of orange and white scattered over the top of it like little gems.

Maybe we’re getting a little too excited here, but seriously: if you’re into the aesthetics of good weed, then you’ll love Key Lime Pie.

Effects of the Key Lime Pie Strain

The first thing you should know about Key Lime Pie effects is that for most people, this particular cannabis strain is pretty-fast acting.

So, whether you start feeling some good high vibes or some not-so-great high vibes, either way, you’re probably going to feel those effects pretty quickly.

In terms of specific effects, we all know that even the best cannabis strains can hit different people in different ways. Your response to weed depends on all kind of complex factors, like your own brain chemistry or your sensitivity to marijuana based on how often you smoke

Now that we’ve got that disclaimer out of the way, let’s look at some of the most common effects of the Key Lime Pie strain.

Possible Positive Effects

Key Lime Pie is a relaxing strain with a calming effect on most users. The Key Lime strain is often described as giving its users a “body high,” immediately sending a sense of relaxation over your entire body.

Because of this calming effect, Key Lime Pie can often be found among other medicinal cannabis strains, used to relieve anxiety and depression. As the body relaxes, so does the brain. As the brain relaxes, feelings of stress diminish.

For similar reasons, Key Lime Pie can also be used to help treat insomnia. With your rushing thoughts calmed down and your body relaxed, you may find it easier to fall asleep at night.

Finally, like most medicinal cannabis strains, Key Lime Pie weed can also be used as a pain reliever. The all-over “body high” induced by this cannabis strain is ideal for soothing your aching muscles, hurting bones, or any other chronic pain.

You can see that the overall takeaway here is that Key Lime Pie is one of the best cannabis strains for chilling out, thanks to how it induces a sense of calm and relaxation in its users.

Possible Negative Effects

Even those of us who love cannabis still know that all weed strains can cause some negative effects on the user. Even with its deceptively delicious name, Key Lime Pie is no exception.

Like any strain of marijuana, Key Lime Pie might make you feel dry mouth or dry eyes. It’s the price you often have to pay for that marijuana high. Drink lots of water to help relieve that feeling!

Some users say that too much Key Lime Pie can cause “couchlock,” especially if you’re not a frequent cannabis user. Don’t be alarmed if you smoke a lot of Key Lime Pie, only to find yourself stuck to your couch and lost in your own daydreams. Just try to take advantage of the moment to relax!

The Takeaway

The Key Lime Pie strain is often called “a cannabis strain for connoisseurs.” It’s easy to see why, with its unique appearance, pleasant aroma, and numerous benefits. We’re proud to carry this strain on our cannabis menu.

Oh, and hey — did all this talk of Key Lime Pie make you feel hungry?  We’ve got some other food suggestions you might want to check out when you get the munchies later (just in case you don’t have any actual pie on hand).
