You will also need to be a legal resident of Nevada and be diagnosed with one of the qualifying medical conditions.
There are twelve qualifying medical conditions or symptoms that are approved for medical marijuana treatment in Nevada. These range from anxiety and nausea to multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. If you have been diagnosed with any of these conditions, then you can qualify for a medical marijuana card in the state of Nevada.
However, not every state shares the same list for medical marijuana, so be sure to double-check if you are a medical cannabis patient coming from another state.
The process to receive your Medical Marijuana card has several layers of red tape, so we’ve helpfully outlined all the steps and potential costs you will need to tackle between step one and receiving your card.
The first step is to receive a qualifying diagnosis for one of the medical conditions above. In some cases, you can get your diagnosis through telehealth by conveying your symptoms to a doctor in an online appointment. However, some conditions require in-person appointments and sometimes multiple tests to confirm. You will need to get a formal and documented diagnosis.
Next, you will need to have a licensed physician provide a medical marijuana recommendation for your approved condition. There are several available telehealth cannabis doctors available in Nevada who will provide the recommendation for a fee.
Once you have your diagnosis and recommendation, go to the medical card portal and fill out an online application. Your application will be reviewed and you will be sent paperwork in the mail. Your application may cost $25.
When you receive the mailed documents, have your physician fill them out. This will confirm your medical marijuana recommendation and formalize it with the state of Nevada.
Once your doctor completes the paperwork, send it back with a payment of $50 per year you would like your card. You can sign up for one year at $50 or two years for $100.
If your application is approved after it is completed, paid, and sent in, you will receive your medical marijuana card in the mail within a few weeks.
Once you get your medical marijuana card, what are the benefits beyond recreational cannabis use in the state of Nevada? Your medical card actually offers quite a few perks that will make treating a medical condition easier compared to the restrictions faced by Nevada recreational cannabis users.
In the state of Nevada, cannabis is subject to a 10% tax. However, Medical Marijuana cardholders do not have to pay this tax and can buy their cannabis at market value instead.
Recreational users in Nevada are limited to buying and possessing no more than one ounce of cannabis leaf or 1/8 ounce of concentrates. Medical cannabis patients, however, can possess up to 2.5 ounces of leaf and can purchase as much every 14 days.
If you are buying edibles, topicals, or tinctures, medical cannabis users can buy products with over 100mg of THC, while recreational users may only purchase products up to the 100mg limit per product.
You can also grow more cannabis provided that your home is more than 25 miles from the nearest dispensary. Medical patients can grow up to 12 mature plants while Nevada residents without a Medical Marijuana card can only grow 6.
Medical Marijuana patients with a valid medical card in any state also benefit from the ability to access cannabis more easily while traveling. Of the legalized states, many only permit medical cannabis. So, while you cannot take your cannabis across state lines, you can restock using your medical card in most of the states
