Understanding CBD Lingo

Cannabis has gained a lot of popularity in the past few years, leading to its legalized status in several states. Despite people consuming the medical and recreational forms of cannabis, not many are aware of the CBD lingo, which often makes purchasing difficult unless you have budtenders assisting you.

To make sure users are properly informed about CBD, this article is dedicated to the details surrounding cannabidiol.

Beginning With the Basics

Cannabidiol or CBD is a compound derived from the cannabis plant. There are two main forms of the cannabis plant, hemp, and cannabis. CBD is dominant in hemp and found in small quantities in cannabis. CBD is described as a non-psychoactive compound that may provide proven medical benefits like pain relief, stress relief, treating epilepsy, treating cancer, and a lot more.

There are three main types of CBD:

Isolates

As the name indicates, CBD is isolated during the extraction process. Since there is no other compound present, isolates are usually richer in CBD, which may be beneficial if you want to consume it for medical purposes.

Full Spectrum

The term is quite common among cannabis users. It refers to products that retain most of CBD’s naturally occurring properties, including terpenes and THC, during the extraction process. In other words, full-spectrum CBD is the purest form of CBD. Watermelon edibles are an example of a full-spectrum CBD product.

Broad Spectrum

Broad-spectrum CBD means the product is the same as its full-spectrum counterpart, minus the THC. Users who wish to avoid psychoactive effects in their entirety prefer broad-spectrum products. GG4  is an example of a broad-spectrum CBD product.

Common CBD Terms

The following are a few terms commonly used around CBD:

Cannabinoid

Similar to CBD, these are also compounds present in the cannabis plant. The cannabinoid is an umbrella term that features several other compounds, including CBD, THC, CBG, CBN, and a lot more.

Cannabinol (CBN)

As mentioned above, this is a compound that falls under the umbrella of cannabinoids. It normally occurs in the products and strains once THC is towards the end of its life. It is also why CBN contains low to mild psychoactive effects.

CB1 and CB2 receptors

Perhaps one of the most commonly associated terms with CBD and the human body is CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors are naturally a part of our body’s endocannabinoid system, which regulates functions in relation to the nervous system and several organs within the body.

Terpenes

The term terpenes refers to oils that give a plant its unique aroma and taste. There are over a hundred different types of terpenes (hence the unique smells of flowers). However, the few most popular and most commonly found terpenes are Myrcene, Limonene, Caryophyllene, Linalool, and a few more.
